KENNY LOPEZ
& HAVANNA CONNECTION
Kenny López and Havana Connection play traditional and contemporary
Cuban music. The show is always fun, especially for those who love to
dance Cuban Salsa, Son , Bolero and Cha Cha Cha.
López has recorded two albums in Havana Cuba where he spends much of his
time playing and recording with Cuban musicians. Kenny López sings, writes
songs in Spanish and plays the tres cubano, (a three stringed guitar used
in traditional cuban dance music). He is the director of the band Odisea
La Banda from Cuba and Havana Connection from Australia.
In 1997 he recorded Animo, his first album in Cuba with Sierra Maestra,
Cuba's famous exponents of Son whose director Juan de Marcos formed Buena
Vista Social Club. In 2001 he recorded his second album Odisea in Cuba
with Odisea La Banda, a band of Cuban musicians with whom he plays live
in Cuba.
Kenny López and Havana Connection also features female Cuban singer Ayme
Colás from Havana. Ayme sings duo and backing vocals with Kenny López
and plays maracas, an essential instrument in the polyrythmic structure
of this music. She also sings lead vocals on a number of Cuban classics
with original arrangements and leads the choreography with singer Claudia
Osegueda, who sings and plays the guiro. Ayme will be joined on stage
by her young daughter Daily, a special treat for kids, who demonstrates
